Preparing objects for spray painting is critical for good results. Be sure to paint only clean, dry surfaces — and any shiny surface will benefit from a thorough sanding with fine sand paper. Always give objects a primer coat first using grey for darker colors (such as green or black). Read the directions on the can thoroughly and follow instructions for the best coverage.

Pedestal Bowl

  1. Clean and sand two 6” wooden bowls.
  2. Glue the top edge of a plastic champagne glass to the bottom center of one bowl using strong white glue such as Weldbond.
  3. Glue the bottom of the champagne glass to the bottom center of the second bowl. Place a small weight in the top bowl and allow the glue to dry overnight.
  4. Turn the pedestal bowl upside down before spraying the bowl a coat of grey Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Primer following the manufacturer’s directions. Let dry.
  5. Give the bowl two light coats of ivy Krylon Outdoor Spaces spray paint following the manufacturer’s directions.
  6. Turn the bowl right side up and sand away any paint that might have leaked onto the top edge of the serving bowl. Your bowl is now ready to serve up what ever you desire including some water and a piece of dry ice to create a mysterious “smoky” atmosphere!

Faux Fruit Centerpiece

  1. Spray paint a large wooden salad bowl black. Sand the surface well first. Turn the bowl upside to spray with grey Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Primer following the manufacturer’s directions. When dry give the bowl two light coats of glossy black Krylon Indoor/Outdoor spray paint.
  2. When dry, sand away any imperfections along the top edge of the bowl.
  3. Spray paint plastic apples and gourds purchased at a Dollar Store using glossy black Krylon Indoor/Outdoor spray paint. Sand the surfaces thoroughly first. Insert a thin skewer into the bottom of the fruit to hold while spraying.
  4. Hot glue a block of floral foam to the bottom of the salad bowl.
  5. Use knippers to shorten the skewers in the black fruit so that you use the end of the skewer to insert the fruit into the floral foam.
  6. Arrange faux greens, plastic grapes and crab apples in and around the black fruit. Hold in place using U-shaped floral picks.

Display Picture Frames

  1. Choose a frame that has at least a 1” depth if you want to display three dimensional objects within. Sand the frames thoroughly.
  2. Spray the frames using grey Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Primer and ivy Krylon Outdoor Spaces spray paint following the general instructions above.
  3. Lay the dry frame down on your work surface and arrange a plastic skeleton to your liking inside. You may have to use knippers or a small hack saw to separate the bones in order to do this. Using thin craft wire, wire the bones back together at the angle you prefer. Then wire the skeleton to the frame. Hint: drilling small holes into the sides of the frame will allow you to secure the skeleton while hiding the wires somewhat.
  4. To give a crow a perch, glue a black dowel between the two sides of the frame. Wire the crow’s feet well to the dowel.
  5. You may have to change the placement of the picture hanger on the back of the frame due to having created an uneven weight distribution inside the frame.
