Krylon® Launches Conservation Varnish and Retouch Varnish as Part of New Ultimate Fine Art Protection Product Line
Varnish Looks Just Like Dammar Without Yellowing and Allows Acrylic Paintings to Look More Like Oil Paintings
CLEVELAND—Krylon®, inventor of the first aerosol clear coatings to preserve priceless artwork, has launched Conservation Varnish – the industry’s only spray varnish that saturates paint colours as beautifully as a natural varnish and provides non-yellowing protection.
While many artists have traditionally used natural varnishes, such as dammar, for the way they make paintings look, these natural resins yellow, darken and become difficult to remove over time. Krylon’s Conservation Varnish is a unique non-yellowing resin that truly delivers a natural varnish look without yellowing or discoloring.
Conservation Varnish saturates colour beautifully, even on acrylic paintings, giving paintings a look very similar to traditional oils protected with natural varnish. Its UV light absorbers and stabilizers ensure artwork is protected against colour changing/fading, gloss reduction, cracking, blistering and loss of adhesion. The finish also provides protection from dirt, moisture and discoloration, and it can be easily removed for conservation purposes.
Krylon also offers Conservation Retouch Varnish, a new product that provides accurate colour comparison by allowing artists to use it during the painting process. It temporarily gives dried paint colours a fresh-from-the-palette look to help in matching newly applied paint.
Retouch Varnish also provides temporary protection to recently completed paintings, allowing artists the flexibility to exhibit and ship a painting before a final varnish is applied. Like Conservation Varnish, it is non-yellowing and transparent and contains UV light absorbers and stabilizers.
Conservation Varnish and Retouch Varnish are part of Krylon’s new Gallery Series™ – a comprehensive line of the highest quality sprays designed to help artists protect, preserve and beautify their artwork and overall vision. The line also includes a Quick Dry for Oil Paintings, Fine Art Fixatif and UV Archival Varnish.
The full line is now available at fine art and craft stores. Conservation Varnish is available in matte and gloss finishes. Both Conservation Varnish and Retouch Varnish come in an 11 oz. aerosol and retail for $12.99 to $15.99. For more information on the complete Gallery Series line, visit www.krylon.com.
